You need a chicken coop…and other pi day stories

Spring is coming!  Well, at least that’s what Williams-Sonoma is telling me in my spam email, promising me beautiful vegetables and chickens if I buy from their Agrarian Collection.  It’s tempting, isn’t it?

I mean, don’t those chickens look like they’re having a ball with their fancy sitting area and stairs that go up to their rooftop garden?  That’s what I told Mui when I forwarded her the email asking if she’d like one…for sleeping in.  Mwahahahaha!!  Just kidding.  But spring is almost here!!!  Except for that pesky frozen snow still gracing my front steps.  But who notices that?  Actually, I do, when I slip on them in the morning.

HAPPY (belated) PI DAY!!!  I am excited, can’t you tell?  Did you make a pie?  I hope you did, because I did.  This year has just been a bit on the busy side, so I decided not to go full force in my celebration and just focused on my pizza pie instead of making a dessert pie too.  I tried out Jim Lahey’s No Knead Pizza Dough because I love bread but am not usually in the mood for kneading.

Mozzarella, red pepper, basil

Actually, I love baking bread (have I talked about that before?  hmm, maybe I should sometime).  It just makes the whole house delicious.  Yes, I eat my house.  I wonder if that’s why it’s so cold in the winter, the bite marks.

A few years ago, my old roommate gifted me Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day for Christmas.  It’s so easy that it’s my go-to now for crusty bread in the winter.  I still have a couple recipes with the usual proofing that I enjoy, but this is the way I go for crusty bread to dip in chili or just in some fragrant olive oil.

But we can talk about this another day.  Today is pizza pi day!  After an overnight rise, the pizzas came together really quickly, in about 30-45 minutes, which was excellent, because I was super tired and hungry after work.  I think my roommate and I were so hungry smelling it bake that we might have pulled the first pizza out a little too early.  Then the second was a little too, shall we say, crispy.  Perhaps it’s good that I was too busy stuffing myself take a picture for you tsk-tsk me about.

With arugula!

Yummy with a topping of arugula.  Arugula is really bitter, but delicious on cheesy pizza pies 😀  Happy Pi Day!!!
